Dear Families,
Welcome back! We hope you had a nice St. Patty’s Day.
The students had so much fun coming up with a plan to catch the
Leprechaun during our How-to writing. Pajama day was so much fun! We were cozy and comfortable along with our
furry friends!
Here’s what’s going on in
first grade…
- We
have spent time writing to our pen pals in St. Albans. We were so
excited to receive our first letters!
We are learning so much about our pen pals. Yes, snail mail
is still alive!
- Currently,
we are learning a lot about nonfiction reading and writing. We have
taken time to look closely at features in nonfiction texts. Students will write their own nonfiction
All About books to teach others.
- In
math, we have been focusing on problem solving. We are learning how
to use different strategies to show our thinking. Our district has
also purchased a new math online program called Dreambox. We have
shared this site with the students.
You will receive more information at parent conferences on how to
access this site from home.
Ms. Johnston and Ms.
Gribbell (our UVM interns) are currently working on units for their two solo
weeks, which will be in April. Recently, they have introduced the phases
of the moon. Please take time to look
out at the sky to make some observations together!
If you have not signed up
for your parent conference, please send along your form and we will set one up
for you. We look forward to meeting with you to talk about all the hard
work your child has been doing!
